Home House Tour A Modern, Scandinavian-Inspired Bedroom

A Modern, Scandinavian-Inspired Bedroom

Modern, Scandinavian-inspired bedroom | white, grey + pink

From the very first time I looked at our house, I knew I wanted to give the master bedroom to the kids. The room has a big window with beautiful afternoon light as well as two built-in closets (you know kids and all their stuff). Plus it’s the biggest room upstairs which means plenty of space to play. The smaller bedroom, with its small window and limited natural light, became our bedroom. I figured, we don’t need a big room or a lot of light since we’re really just sleeping in there. Plus the smaller bedroom perfectly fit two queen mattresses from wall to wall, which was amazing during our first year in the house since we either at least one if not two co-sleepers at any given time. But with the kids in their own room now and not needing a giant family bed (as nice as it was), I finally wanted our space to feel like a real bedroom. A place I wanted to relax in, to read a book or flip through a magazine. Complete with side tables and lighting and wall art. Not just a room that consisted of 80% mattress (on ugly metal bed frames) and absolutely nothing else.

What really got me started on our bedroom revamp was upgrading our basic (read: low thread count) white sheets to Charter Club Damask’s gorgeous new Supima cotton collection (created for Macy’s). The whole collection is made from a very luxe 550-thread count Supima cotton and I’ve never slept in such luxury at home! Haha. But seriously, these sheets feel so silky and soft against my skin and are definitely a huge upgrade from our old ones.

As much as I love white, I love the ability to mix-and-match neutrals and bring in a little pop of colour to create a nice focal point. And since I wanted to stick with a no-headboard bed frame (it’s now a nice wood rather than the cheap black metal ones we had before), having pillows that pop against our white walls was really important to me. I love that Charter Club Damask’s solid sheet collection has 20 colours to choose from and all the colours mix and match perfectly. I ordered white, slate (a dark grey), stone (a light grey), and cherry blossom (a light pink). I also really love the light green colours (meadow and teal) and might add a few pieces in both of these colours in the near future to be able to easily switch up the look.

The whole bedroom is inspired by typical Scandinavian design and a desire to keep the space simple and serene, free from unnecessary clutter. Keeping things minimalist, lots of whites, greys, and natural wood, interspersed with pops of black metal and the pink of the pillowcases. Scroll down for a ton more pictures! And I’ve also sourced everything at the end of the post if you’re interested.

The side table on the left is from IKEA’s collaboration with Danish design house HAY. One of my favourite collections ever!

I love having open-facing bookshelves to display pretty books and magazines. Plus they don’t take up a lot of room so you can put them almost everywhere. I have these in several spots in our house as they’re also great for young kids (since seeing the book cover means they’re more likely to pick it up).

I decided to tape a small collage of art onto the wall rather than using frames so that we were still able to sit up in bed and read. Plus using washi tape means it’s super easy to switch up the look!
