Oh beautiful Bavarian mountains, how I’ve missed you so. The mountains are, without a doubt, my happy place. I would choose mountains over ocean any day. (And I love the ocean.) It’s one of the things I miss most about living in Munich. That and Leberkäs-Semmel. And Kässpätzle. Okay, fine, pretty much all Bavarian food. Yum!
The weather this trip has not been very conducive to my mountain-loving ways. Heavy rain pretty much non-stop. And if we did have good weather it was definitely not predicted by the unusually pessimistic weather forecasters. (I’m used to the overly optimistic Toronto weather reporters who spend the colder half of the year getting our hopes up. “This week might look miserable but, check it out, next week it’s going to be sunny and warm!” Lies, lies, lies.)
Then one morning last week, as we were slowly but surely running out of opportunities to visit my beloved mountains (noooo!), I took a look at the weather forecast and it showed a 2-hour non-rainy window. In exactly 1.5 hours. Which gave us juuuust enough time to make it to Brauneck (one of my favourite family-friendly mountain destinations near Munich) if we left in exactly 5 minutes. Never mind that the kids were still eating breakfast. This mama needs her mountains! (Not to worry, I did let them finish. But only because I was busy racing around grabbing diapers and rain coats and what not.)
Isabelle was pretty excited about the gondola. Nicolas not so much. (Or maybe he was just unamused by all the crazy sounds I was making to try and get him to look at the camera.)
Haha this expression. He just can’t handle the awesomeness that is Brauneck Mountain. Mind. Blown.
Happiest in the mountains! Like mother, like daughter. (Or it might have been because of all the sticks and rocks. And that bar in her hand.)
I’ll take this view to go, thank you.
We sat outside and ate our “picnic” (aka baby snacks I managed to round up before leaving the house) because the restaurant appeared to be closed. Turns out it was, in fact, open. Which we found out as we got up to leave because the rain clouds were rolling in with a vengeance. (Note to self: next time actually try the door.)
Nicolas will not pass up an opportunity to eat non-baby food. And mama will not pass up an opportunity for an afternoon coffee.
Thank you Brauneck Panorama Restaurant for having a little kids corner to keep Isabelle entertained long enough for us to actually eat our meals. Also: tongue out = happiest ever.
