September: probably my favourite month of the year. When the air gets crisper, the leaves turn red, and out come the boots and scarves. That and these two little hooligans of mine are born in September. Two very special reasons to celebrate this month! Nicolas turned one last week and Isabelle turns 3 next Thursday! (Insert party popper emoji but also crying face emoji because where oh where has the time gone?!?)
Side note: I think December’s pretty cool too. Christmas, those first magical days of snow when you’re not yet over the cold weather. And the other half of our little family’s birthdays are in December. (Evidently I’m biased towards birthday months.)
But back to fall. My Pinterest style boards are about 90% fall clothing so clearly I’m more than a little obsessed. Chunky knits, plaid, denim on denim, cozy scarves, ankle booties, you name it. And all of that in miniature on these two cuties? Yes, please!
Talking about miniature clothing, how adorable are these matching Chukka boots? Before I had kids I totally rolled my eyes at moms who matched their kiddos but it’s pretty clear from my Instagram account that I’ve changed my tune on that one. (Exhibit A. And B. And C… you get the drift.) When it’s done in a more subtle way I think it ups the cuteness factor big time. (That coming from a mom of a boy and a girl. I’m sure if we have a third baby down the road I’ll be dressing the two boys / girls in head-to-toe matching outfits and I’ll think it’s hands down the cutest thing since “Charlie bit me“.)
When I’m picking out shoes for Isabelle, I always try and keep them as gender neutral as possible. With clothing I’ll go more girly (even if pink is still rare) but I want shoes to last through multiple kids. As much as I’m sure Nicky can rock hot pink glitter-covered sneakers, I’m just not that brave. Yet. That and gender-neutral happens to be more in line with my style.
Quality and comfort are super important to me when it comes to footwear. These little feet are running around all day and I want to make sure that their shoes are supporting their growing feet in the best way possible. I’d much rather splurge on a few pairs of quality shoes that go with everything than have double as many but have them be half as comfy (or only last half as long). For Isabelle we’ve always had just three or four pairs of shoes at any given time. Sneakers, sandals, and rain boots for warmer months. And swap out the sandals for two pairs of boots. One pair of super warm, waterproof boots for our Canadian winters plus a three-season boot that can be dressed up or down.
Which brings me to these super adorable boots from See Kai Run. We got them in August already and, despite felt temperatures nearing the 40s, Isabelle wanted to wear them alllll the time. (I usually tried to talk her out of it but, you know, stubborn toddler and the whole “pick your battles” thing). I totally get it though. They’re so soft and the wide opening combined with the velcro tabs means toddlers can easily put them on themselves. Isabelle isn’t much of a do-it-yourself girl when it comes to getting dressed (she’d prefer someone help her) but with these she always insists on putting them on herself. And judging by the speed at which Nicolas zooms around in these, I’d say he finds them pretty comfy too.
Okay, enough with the rambling and onto the good stuff! I love these shoes so much that I’ve partnered with See Kai Run to give a pair of baby / toddler / kids shoes from their shop to one lucky winner! And girl mamas, make sure to check out the boys section too because they have lots of amazing gender neutral options (like these Desmond boots).
