House Tour: A Scandinavian-Inspired Family Room

A Monochrome, Scandinavian Family Room | Happy Grey Lucky

Confession: I am terrible at finishing things. I will work super hard to get something to 90% and then, when I’m so so close to the finish line, I get bored and move onto the next thing. I could leave it at 90% and call it a day, but I’m too much of a perfectionist and that last “unfinished” 10% really irks me. Clearly those two qualities don’t go hand-in-hand, but what can ya do. Haha. We moved into our house almost two years ago now and there are still so many small, unfinished items on my todo list. Nothing major, but all of these smaller jobs add up and I’ve definitely reached a point where I’d like our house to be done. Or as done as it’ll ever be (since I’m known to rearrange things all the time). The basement was one of those bigger “todo”s. We had all the functional items down there – all the furniture and kids’ play things – but it just didn’t feel finished. Not everything had a place, there wasn’t a lot of decor, and there was so much just standing around waiting to be tackled. So this past month we finally set aside some time to finish up the main part of our basement: the family and TV room.

Okay enough rambling and onto the good stuff: the pictures. Be warned: there are a lot. Ha! (What else is new?) I’ve sourced everything I can think of at the end of the post but if there’s anything you notice that you don’t see in the list, just leave me a comment and I’ll try and find out where it’s from.

First of all, I’m so envious that you have a basement! In Florida, you can hardly dig several inches without hitting water (though after Irma this weekend perhaps our house’s main floor will *be* a basement). You’ve decorated it beautifully, and I love your prints!

Hi Krystal, I hope your main floor hasn’t been turned into a basement because of Irma! How horrible.
And ahh yes, I don’t know what I’d do without a basement haha. More for storage than anything else since we don’t have a garage. 😀

Love this so much! Thank you for sharing it! Could you do a blog post on your process when setting up spaces like this? Like how do you plan/organise it etc from blank canvas to finished product… As someone who lacks those skills a post from someone who does would really help! That would be amazing! Thanks again xx

Hi Alexandra,
That’s a really great idea for a post, thank you! I’ve written it down in my list of future posts so I’ll hopefully get something up for you soon!
