Much to the dismay of my never-ending to-do list, I spend far too much time on Pinterest scrolling through gorgeous pictures of Scandinavian homes. Even before we bought our house, I was already planning out every single (not yet existent) room. My absolute favourite space to search for (and dream plan) is the living room. It’s (usually) the first room you see when you walk through the door, it’s where you entertain guests, where you relax, where you curl up with a hot cup of coffee and a good book. (If you don’t have two crazies ruling your world. In which case you’ll be building lego trucks whilst sipping coffee that was, at one point or another, hot, but is definitely somewhere in the realm of luke warm to flat out cold now.)
When we walked into our house for the very first time and I saw that gorgeous black and white fireplace I knew this was it. This was going to be our house. The decor and the old-but-not-in-a-good-way hardwood floors left something to be desired (not to mention the totally tacky 70s-style basement), but that fireplace was just pure perfection. (As was the gorgeous kitchen and amazing clawfoot bathtub that I would soon lay my eyes on.)
Back to Pinterest. The coffee table that kept cropping up in so many gorgeous Scandinavian living rooms was this designer-still-unknown round, white and ash beauty. I pinned it (about 500 times) and then a little bit of googling led me to discover that it was by Danish designer Normann Copenhagen.
Now I try not to spend too much money on any single item. My favourite store is IKEA for a reason. (Let’s not talk about how much money I spend there even if each item is “cheap”.) And this table was a little more than I was budgeting for. But, after – quite literally – days and days of unsuccessfully Google searching for alternatives that I would love just as much and even considering a DIY project, I decided that, hey, it’s okay to splurge on that perfect piece once in a while. And I’m so glad I did because it is my favourite thing about the living room! After that fireplace, of course.
