As promised, here are the second half of our Dominican Republic vacation photos. At the end of last month, Chris and I went on our very first trip without our kids and it was absolutely amazing! So relaxing and good for our souls to have a bit of alone time, just as husband and wife.
I put together a little video of our trip. Please ignore my poor videography skills, I have 10+ years experience in SLR photography but I’m completely new to videography and I’m still learning the ropes (like such as not shaking the camera like crazy ha). Still super fun though, especially taking the GoPro in the water. I did learn I’m not a very graceful swimmer though. And need to work on how long I can hold my breath, it’s slightly embarrassing haha. Anyways, hope you enjoy!
And of course plenty of photos as well. If you haven’t already, make sure to check out the first half of our photos here.
We went on one excursion during our time there, which was a whale watching trip. Neither Chris nor I have ever seen whales before and Samaná Bay is one of the best spots for whale watching in the world. Atlantic humpback whales from Iceland, Greenland, Canada, and elsewhere in North America, come to Samaná Bay to seek a mate and give birth in the warm water. We absolutely loved it… for the first hour. Whilst we didn’t see a whale breach, we did see several humpback whale families including a mom and baby having a little fin and tail conversation (which was amazing!). I always forget that I get seasick easily, though, and about halfway through though, almost everyone in the boat got a little (or a lot) nauseous from all of the bobbing up and down. If you decide to go, make sure you’ve got some seasickness pills with you.
Piña Coladas and reading… all day e’ry day. I read “Mindset: The New Psychology of Success” and I found it so fascinating. I used to read only crime novels and other just-for-fun stuff but, ever since I had Isabelle, I feel like if I’m going to read (which doesn’t happen often), I need to learn something from whatever I’m reading. And not just how to get away with murder lol.
Sunrise yoga session. Slash lounge chair snagging. Backstory: first watch this super hilarious video. Don’t worry if you don’t speak German. The gist is basically this German couple “sleeps in” and then freaks out because there are only two lounge chairs left. A British couple is about to claim them when the husband uses a rocket launcher to blast their German towels onto the loungers. And it was totally like this at our resort! When we got up for the sunrise, most of the lounge chairs were already filled with towels. No Germans in sight, just their towels.
For the last two days we joined in on this German towel snagging business. If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em. Haha.
We gave up on the ocean GoPro-ing about halfway through (we’re such babies haha) and just settled on the pool.
One last sunset before heading home.
Ahh, to fly without kids. So relaxing!
